Parents warned to keep children away from pornographic sites

Mr Gbenga Sesan, an Information and Technology (IT) expert, has urged parents to keep their children away from accessing online pornographic sites on computers and mobile telephones.

Sesan, Executive Director, Paradigm Initiative Nigeria, a social enterprise that connects the less privileged with ICT, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos .

He expressed concern that several children now learn and engage in various forms of sexual immorality through the Internet.

According to him, it is time for parents to take proactive action on their wards who view harmful online sites.

Sesan advised parents to properly secure their computers and mobile telephone handsets from online sites that were pornographic.

The IT expert added that schools and libraries should also secure their computers to prevent children from accessing the sites.

“Internet has been a great tool and resource for accessing information, but it is also a tool widely and intricately packed with pornography and other obscene materials.

“Parents no longer check on their children to ensure that moral advice are given to them on ways to stay away from porn sites

“Education has gone beyond sending children to school without knowing how they live their life, “ he said.

Sesan said that parents should inculcate moral education in their children so that they would not be wayward.

He urged youths to use the Internet to enrich their knowledge positively rather than viewing online porn that would be detrimental to their lives.
